On Friday night I went to the Private View of this year’s MA Show from the Bath School of Art & Design (at Bath Spa University). The show is the culmination of the students’ final module and work towards their MA.
This year there were only a couple of textiles students finishing, with the majority of work being from the ceramics and fine art courses.
The work I was most impressed by (and my main reason for attending) was by Welsh weaver, Llio James.
This body of work was inspired by seascapes near her home in Wales, maritime signalling flags and traditional designs in Welsh textiles.
Llio’s design samples are hand woven in lambswool and then, following discussion with the mill, developed further before being put into production.
