It’s always great to stumble across a new textile designer or maker you haven’t encountered before. It’s even better to see a showcase of many new creatives in one place. That’s where New Designers comes into its own – graduates from all over the UK come together to share their best work over two weeks.
Part 1 runs from 28 June and includes the disciplines of Textiles & Fashion, Costume Design, Jewellery & Precious Metalwork, Ceramics & Glass and Contemporary Design Crafts. Part 2 is the following week, opening on 5 July, and includes Furniture, Product & Industrial Design, Spatial Design & Interiors, Graphic Design, Illustration & Animation and Motion & Digital Arts. With 3,000 students showing their work there really is something for everyone.
As an extra treat, the Royal College of Art (RCA) final shows are on from 24 June -2 July so you have the opportunity of seeing further textile offerings here. The RCA website describes the work from the Textiles programme as being defined by a “creative restlessness”.
