Bath Knitting & Crochet Guild – Christmas

To celebrate another fabulous 12 months of the Bath Knitting & Crochet Guild, our December session was a festive making get-together and a sneak preview at what we’ve got coming up in January for our members.

Regular tutors and local supporters of the group, Mary Henderson and Janet Friel have created a very special knit-a-long/crochet-a-long for our members. The project is a cowl designed to use up yarn from your stash/leftover from projects while working towards a lightweight garment for spring.

In an homage to the Fashion Museum Bath, who kindly host our group each month, the inspiration for the cowl comes from the current exhibitions A History of Fashion in 100 Objects and Royal Women The stitches are a progression from simple to slightly complex, and Mary and Janet will be on hand at regular intervals to provide assistance and share the next stage of the project.

For anyone looking for quick festive makes in the remaining few days before Christmas, have a look at these patterns from our latest session (all freely available online).

Bath Knitting & Crochet Guild – Tapestry Crochet

For our November session regular member and crocheter Anna led us through a workshop on tapestry crochet.

This is a technique that is achievable for most if you’re familiar with chains and doubles and everyone at the session managed to learn the tapestry crochet technique, with some even starting the snowflake motif. There was an industrious atmosphere and lots of counting!

If you’d like to have a go there are instructions below from the Knitting & Crochet Guild about learning to crochet (or to use as a refresher) and Anna’s notes from the session.

#SeptTextileLove

The #SeptTextileLove challenge is back!

It’s an Instagram challenge all about engaging with other textile makers, designers, artists and enthusiasts, and sharing a collective love of textiles. There are 30 prompts, one for each day in September, which use the hashtag #SeptTextileLove. You can respond to as many of the prompts as you wish, this could be only a few or it may be all of them. The only requirement is that you include the hashtag #SeptTextileLove so the seam textile collective can find, like, comment on and share your posts!

September is the perfect time to do this as everyone is invigorated after the summer break, maybe with a few new goals and aspirations if you associate this time of year with the start of the academic year.

The full list of prompts will be shared on the seam collective Instagram page and on the seam blog on Friday 31 August. I’ll be joining in, I look forward to seeing your posts and sharing your love of textiles during September!
